As for the straight stick roller, it is very similar to the previous version, even in price. However, it is also available from many manufacturers in a version with serrated or laced sticks. These cylinders are lightweight, yet extremely versatile. Excellent for soil crushing and smoothing.
The flat ring and rubber impact cylinders
It is necessary to mention the flat ring cylinder made of a flexible, hardened steel ring. When it comes to hard ground, it does the job. The cultivation roller compacts the soil in strips and breaking up clods means better water retention. Mud scrapers with knives keep the roller from clogging and also make it harder for mud to stick. And when it comes to rubber cylinders, most of them consist of rubber rings with a diameter of 500 mm. The advantage is that the cylinder can perform its function in both wet and dry conditions. The rings and mud scrapers are made of rubber, the material of which prevents clogging. Thanks to the optimum diameter and low rolling resistance, it does not press the ground excessively even when operating at low working speeds.
What do you need to know about spiked and wedge ring cylinders?
Nodding rollers with a spiked surface can be an ideal choice for wet or stony soils, but can also be used in areas where organic residues are abundant in the soil. The roller is designed to ensure even compaction of the soil in the cultivated area. It can be used to support the farm in both compacted and normal soils. The wedge ring roller, on the other hand, has a V-shaped profile, which is particularly suitable for soils prone to clodding. These rings are capable of intensive soil scarification, all because they have extra mud scrapers. It works the land in strips, but its advantage is that it allows optimum water retention and moisture infiltration.
How to choose an impact roller?
The most important thing is to know the soil type, the structure and condition of the soil, what the machine can cope with sandy soil and what it can cope with compacted soil. The other important aspect is the purpose of cultivation, because if it is a question of crushing clods, it is advisable to use a star knife roller. But it is also important to know whether the roller is compatible with the tractor or other cultivator used.
