Opportunities to increase the efficiency of agricultural production
2023. October 28.Agricultural performance is mainly determined by the efficient use of available resources.
This requires human resource training, optimisation of economies of scale and, of course, technological improvements.
But today it is essential to increase the efficiency of production, especially to meet the growing demand for food, both at home and worldwide.
What are our options?
The agricultural performance of countries around the world is mainly influenced by the level of technology used.
This is because output is largely determined by the potential and efficiency of the use of the factors of production available to us, in addition to the growth of capital and labour.
However, the level of human capital skills and economies of scale are also important.
This also includes the development of agricultural machinery and technologies, which also provide opportunities for efficient production.
There are several options for increasing productivity in agriculture.
Technological progress is always necessary, but we cannot forget about increasing technical efficiency and optimising economies of scale.
The difficulty is that the uptake of new technologies is a slow process, as companies and workers need time to adapt and learn to use them.
This happens at very different rates in different industries, so that faster-growing sectors, such as engineering, are quicker to adopt these technological innovations.
So it is not easy to keep up, especially in our country, where we are still lagging behind.
Above all, therefore, we need automation in tractors and agricultural machinery.
The adaptation and improvement of tractors and other equipment will make it possible to carry out a large part of the work using machines.
There are, for example, GPS and self-guiding technologies that enable tractors to work more accurately and efficiently in the field, all without the need for human intervention.
The main advantage of this is that it saves fuel and, above all, manpower, and allows us to tend the crops more evenly and efficiently.
What about precision agriculture?
In precision agriculture, we use technologies such as drones, sensors, satellites, to get more accurate information about the condition of the crops and the soil.
This allows farmers to better control the application of fertiliser, pesticides and water, reducing losses and increasing yields.
What other machines can be used to increase efficiency?
Modern seed drills and harvesters are always more efficient than human resources, and they also allow fast and uniform sowing and harvesting.
These tools result in higher area yields and take less time.
Another solution is the use of herbicides and weed killers, which play a major role in controlling pests and weeds.
Such equipment sprays the required substances accurately and efficiently, reducing excessive chemical use and environmental pollution.
And when it comes to irrigation, automated irrigation systems can be used to ensure that plants receive the right amount of water, minimising water wastage.
Timed watering and the use of rain sensors help to optimise water use, so plants always get and use as much as they actually need.
By using these machines and technologies, we can increase productivity and efficiency in agriculture.
We can also reduce waste and environmental pressures.
However, it is important to use these agricultural tools efficiently to achieve the best results.
